MOPPETS is the childcare program your children (ages newborn through kindergarten) attend while you attend MOPS.  Your children are precious to us and we count it a joy to care for them.  They will enjoy a loving, clean and safe environment.

Children will be separated by ages in order to provide the safest environment that best meets their needs.  The ages may be adjusted depending on the number of children we have in each class, in order to keep class sizes appropriate.

Each class will have age appropriate activities.  Activities include:  arts and crafts, indoor play or playground time, snacks, Bible stories, music, some videos, and toys.

We would like to encourage mothers to leave their children in MOPPETS where they will be well cared for.  You are welcome to keep your infant (0-5 months) with you in our regular meetings.

The following guidelines should help ensure a smooth start to your MOPS day:

· Sign In/Drop Off: Check your children, ages 5 months and above, into MOPPETS between 9:15 and 9:30. Attach the provided nametag to the back of your child at this time. Please make any comments/notations needed about feeding times or special instructions.

· Labeling: All items left for your children should be clearly labeled with their names. Please provide enough supplies (diapers, wipes, bottles, snacks, etc.) for a 2 hour visit.

· Snacks: We ask that at the beginning of the year of MOPS, moms with children in the MOPPETS program contribute a large package of one snack item for sharing amongst the children throughout the MOPS semester. Suggested snack items include graham crackers, goldfish, Ritz bits, or animal crackers. Please do not donate items that may include peanuts as they can trigger allergic reactions.

Dropping children off in the nursery can sometimes be stressful for all those involved. The following guidelines may help alleviate some of the tension.

· Be patient when dropping off children. Did you know that around 30 children are being dropped off at the same time? With that many children being dropped off at the same time, there is a possibility of having to wait in line.

· Expect emotional drop offs and pick ups. It is very common for children to cry when being dropped off. MOPS isn’t part of their daily routine and tears should be expected. Assure your child of your return, tell him/her goodbye, and hand them to the MOPPETS worker. Prolonged departures tend to make the children more upset. The majority of the children calm down in less than five minutes. If a child cries for more than 10 minutes and cannot be consoled, the parent will be paged. Once moms start picking up their children, it is common for the remaining children to be upset because it wasn’t their mom retrieving them. Just because a child was crying when they were dropped off and happen to be crying upon being picked up, does not mean they have been crying the entire time.

· Be appreciative of the MOPPETS workers. These volunteers provide a service to us so we can participate in MOPS. They do everything they can to pacify our children, so we can enjoy the speakers, creative activities, and fellowship with other moms without interruption. Without them, we would have to require MOPS moms to take turns in the MOPPETS classrooms. A smile and a thank you go a long way in keeping them coming back for each meeting.

· Don’t be silent. If you have a concern about the care of your child, please speak to someone immediately. There is no way of correcting a problem if we don’t know about it.
